Only vendors and marketplaces for custom keyboards and keyboard parts will be covered, with a bias for stores accessible from the U.S. Some stores offer international shipping, and for those, I’d strongly advise reading through their shipping policies before placing an international order – the customer is usually responsible for any import duties and fees. For pre-builts, I’d suggest looking at Amazon, Newegg, or Micro Center.

Group Buys
In some cases, a product – often keycaps, switches, or keyboards – will be greenlit for production or distribution only if a number of buyers show interest and a minimum cash goal is reached. Think, Kickstarters. Group Buys may be organized by an organization like Drop, or by individual community members like on GeekHack.

Note: Group Buys are not guarantees. Be aware that there is a risk associated with placing a deposit on a product not yet confirmed for production or distribution.

To keep this thread relevant, I’ll post keeb store-related news in here. Discounts, upcoming sales n’ promos, mishaps with product runs – so on and so forth. New product launches will be kept to a minimum, as 'Chew disdains advertising and marketing.

Summary
Keyreative, working with feedback from multiple vendors, has announced that they’ll be switching from dye-sublimated PBT to double-shot PBT keycaps. This change will likely be applied to their in-production keycap sets – namely the KAT Atlantis, KAT Explosion, and KAT Mizu – and may mean a longer delay in fulfilling Group Buys for those sets.

Buyers that have joined Daily Clack’s, mykeyboard.eu’s, and Deskhero’s GBs for the KAT Atlantis, KAT Explosion, and KAT Mizu have the option to cancel their purchase for free, should they disagree with Keyreative’s double-shot keycaps decision.

As you’re aware, Keyreative has been hard at work addressing quality issues from previous sets. As they’ve navigated the pandemic, and continued to push, we’re excited for what they can deliver.

Unfortunately, there is going to be a further delay. It’s no secret, we love KAT keycaps, and we think they can be better. We’ve submitted feedback to Keyreative about multiple sets that we’ve received, and have challenged ourselves to get our customers a beautiful set that brings the designer’s vision to life. In Keyreative’s zeal to deliver to your/our standards, they preemptively decided to switch from dyesub PBT to double shot PBT. While this was an independent decision made by Keyreative, we’re working closely with them on the final approval process. We will review a full set plus novelties to confirm the quality of the double shot. We also hope to be able to review every single kit - but have not received a commit from Keyreative about this.

While we’re disappointed in yet another delay, we hope that the superior quality and complete follow through from Keyreative, Rensuya, and CannonKeys will make this right. We look forward to delivering beautiful keycaps to you, as soon as we can. We’ve heard that the full sample set and novelties should be ready for review sometime in July - but aside from that, we don’t have a firm timeline.

Keep in mind that many of these giveaways on other forums / social media apps have “entry requirements” that aim to spread the store’s publicity (e.g. following them on IG, leaving a comment on the Reddit thread, liking and sharing Twitter tweets), as well as other caveats (e.g. region-specific, customers only, older accounts only, frequent / recent Discord activity). These requirements exclude a large portion of peepos from entering, which makes these “giveaway” posts more akin to adverts, aaaand I intensely dislike being used as a mindless advertising / endorsement tool.

Promoting discounts n’ sales are a bit different, in my mind. At the very least, there’s an incentive and a slight benefit / savings to be had with discounted products. Promoting giveaways that are only open to elite groups sorta… doesn’t benefit the casual consumer at all?

The middle-ground, I suppose, would be to only post giveaways with “lax” entry requirements; as in, giveaways that are open to all, with no particular registration restrictions or additonal effort necessary (like gleam.io ones). The bottom line is, if I* can enter, so can you.

*Note: 'Chew doesn’t have a Reddit or Twitter, and while I do have an IG, I’m very stingy with my follows, likes, reposts there. In relation to posting giveaways, this means if the giveaway requires the participant to register for a Reddit, Twitter, IG, FB, or other forum / social media account, I won’t post it here.

Vala Supply News - Imposter Instagram Account

Summary
There is a Vala Supply Instagram account that is impersonating the Vala Supply’s brand and legitimate Instagram. The impersonator has been claiming that people have won giveaways, directing them to a website to “register” (seems to be via bit.ly links). Vala Supply urges its followers not to respond to the fake account’s instructions or links.

The imposter Instagram account uses @valasupply_, with an underscore.
The legitimate Instagram account is simply @valasupply.

It just came to our attention that there is a fake Vala Supply Instagram that is DMing people claiming they’ve won giveaways and directing them to a website. That is not the official Vala Supply account.

I know this looks similar… but please know that the @valasupply_ account is not ours. If that fake account DMs you claiming you’ve won a giveaway… that is not true. You will only receive official Vala Supply messages on Instagram from @valasupply.

All the reports we’ve received thus far include a message similar to the one below. Do not click the enclosed bit.ly link. Do not provide them any personal information. We will always send giveaway codes directly and will not send bit.ly links.
